Agreed. These kids are being sent off to their deaths for no reason. But I do think a lot of younger people are starting to realize that. That’s why enlistment numbers are down drastically for armed forces right now. My daughter is 20 years old and she and her friends all say that there’s no way they would go into the military and be used as pawns for a bunch of old white dudes who make all the rules for everybody else. She’s not wrong. She says a lot of young people now would never go into the military because they know it means certain death.
Sadly less than 25% of all 18-35 year olds would even be eligible to enlist. The rest are ineligible because of health (physical or mental), weight, drugs, etc.
Also if things don't change soon and if the USA gets pulled into any or all of the current conflicts (Ukraine, Gaza..) or some other conflict these young people may have no option.
There ALWAYS are options. They tried to draft me twice, and I flatly refused both times. They try to threaten and scare you into submitting to them, but your moral compass should be your ultimate guide. If you are ok with a total stranger telling you who are your friends and who are your enemies, perhaps the military is the right place for you.
The worst they can do to you for refusing is have you spend a couple of years in a relatively soft minimum-security fed. prison. My father was also Airforce, WW II. He was a pilot when he retired. :-) His brother, my uncle, was also a pilot and died in WW II when his plane was hit by enemy fire.
